The South West Area Group of the 009 Society (SWOONS) held their 3rd Members Open Day at the Merryfield Hall in the small village of Ilton, between Yeovil and Taunton in Somerset (and the second that I have covered in this Volume) and again what a super way to start the new year and meet up with the 80-plus narrow gauge modelling enthusiasts, or simply curious who attended to take part in another of the regular small informal and friendly village hall experiences that has by now become an established and enviable series of events within the 009 Society.
I counted 13 exhibits ranging from a micro "pizza" and a Gn15 mini-diorama through to full sized layouts that had been provided by SWOONS members and supplemented by friends from the Wessex NG Modellers, an excellent buffet service run by Moreen Golding and her team and the world famous travelling 009 Society Sales courtesy of Brian Guilmant. If you live in the UK and think that these little events are not worth travelling to get to, the 80-odd who did come to rural Somerset for this occasion had travelled from: Yorkshire, Essex, Surrey, West Midlands, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Avon, Devon, Cornwall, Hampshire and Dorset (and these were just the people I know!) as well as the home county.
A very enjoyable, informal and friendly day, that was superbly organised by an enthusiastic and hard-working Group. Thanks to you all and I look forward to the next one!
